It's apparent to me that what eastern culture calls "Tao" is the actual supernatural God. Unfortunately, over the centuries people began to confuse the Tao with their physical creators, those beings the Hebrews referred to as the Elohim, and this is one of the main problems with western religion in general. I hope to separate these two "gods" and help re-mystify western theology. Theology, after all, is to believe in and worship God using symbols and rituals in an effort to mimic the mystics. Mysticism is to know God without belief and to be a symbol (or image, if you prefer) of God
My intent here is to support my postulation, through
cross-referencing ancient art and scripture, that God, as described in them, is
indeed a race of physical extraterrestrial or interdimensional beings (with a
highlighted authority figure among them - YHVH in the case of the Hebrew
Elohim) who created humans through blending their genes with a particular
native species of ape. They then cross-bred with their creations and produced
unintended genetic mutations which were then wiped out through the cataclysmic
event described in Genesis 6, spared only the desired end genetic products, and
moved on to the next M-class planet after declaring the experiment a success;
However, evidence suggests that “Our Fathers Who Art In Heaven” still come down
to create an occasional hybrid to serve as their spokesman.
And, in this way, they propagate themselves and
their ideals (or the closest possible facsimile thereof) throughout the cosmos,
and they were created by another race in the same fashion, backwards into
infinity. Incidentally, we will evolve
to the same status and eventually begin to continue the same cycle of
re-creation and our creations, and theirs, will extend themselves/ourselves
forward into infinity.
At the same time, I hope to expand on the true
Divine Spirit, which is eternal, omnipresent, and the Source of all things, but
has been confused with the physical God(s) of the Hebrews, the Sumerians, The
Greeks, and many other cultures.

LUKE 9:28 And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray. 29 And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering. 30 And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias: 31 Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem. 32 But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him. 33 And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said. 34 While he thus spake, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud. 35 And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.

REVELATIONS 1:10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, 11. Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea. 12. And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; 13. And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. 14. His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; 15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. 16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp two-edged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength. 17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: 18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

Session 1:
iminaquichephase: hey Kid... i was reading Keys to the Kingdom... got a
couple questions
KidReality: Shoot.
iminaquichephase: what is your explaination
of the Transfiguration
KidReality: In what context?
iminaquichephase: biblical? alien?
KidReality: Just consider this: to the
ancient Hebrews, any technology (including a spotlight) would appear to be
magical or God-like.
iminaquichephase: good point : )
KidReality: I think alien is the wrong
word when referring to the Elohim.
KidReality: And so is the word God.
KidReality: Western culture tends to
confuse the Creator God(s), the Elohim and the supernatural God.
iminaquichephase: how would you define
Elohim?
KidReality: Our Fathers, who art in
Heaven......
KidReality: Is how they did....
iminaquichephase: i see
KidReality: But who created the
Elohim?
iminaquichephase: that's what i was
wondering... : )
KidReality: That's what I see as a
deep confusion in western religions.
KidReality: The Elohim are not God.
KidReality: The eternal God is present
in both species, here and now.
iminaquichephase: and do all Elohim have
the same sort of conciousness as Jesus?
KidReality: I don't know, since I
never met either.
iminaquichephase: ok
KidReality: I'm only going on hunches
and decades of poring thru ancient texts and art. Religion is another hobby of
mine.
iminaquichephase: perhaps a result of
evolution... like Chardin's model
KidReality: Religion is to cling.
Faith is to let go.
iminaquichephase: i love the way everything
links together kind of synchronistically
iminaquichephase: that’s what first turned
me onto Jung
iminaquichephase: then when i saw that
mentioned in the Celestine Prophecy i sorta freaked
KidReality: <shudders at any
reference to modern psychology>
iminaquichephase: baaah hah!!
iminaquichephase: no good?
KidReality: They're worse than the
Christians.
KidReality: Frickin arrogant,
egoistic, unspiritual, absolutist bastages.
iminaquichephase: jeeze! never heard
someone go off like this : )
KidReality: I, with my highly unusual
model of the universe, am in danger from them.
iminaquichephase: what do you have against
Jung?
KidReality: Nothing in particular.
It's the power and authority of the Psychiatric Empire I fear.
iminaquichephase: i can understand that...
iminaquichephase: you ever hear what Watts
has to say about that?
KidReality: Yep, and others.
iminaquichephase: forming some understanding of the human mind is
good, no?
KidReality: I have nothing against
Jesus, either, but his modern religion sure is stupid.
KidReality: An eye cannot see itself
except in a mirror.
iminaquichephase: but we can see similar
eyes in others
KidReality: Understanding is fine.
Control is not.
iminaquichephase: werd to that
iminaquichephase: on another topic, why
does an individual feel the need to live "in the now"?
KidReality: Most do not.
KidReality: Most do nothing but dwell
on the past and worry about the future.
KidReality: That is the reason for the
perpetuation of organized religion.
KidReality: Just the possibility of an
eternity in Hell keeps millions coming back every Sunday.
iminaquichephase: fear
iminaquichephase: not too fun
KidReality: It rules the world.
iminaquichephase: is "living in the
Now" more common in the general eastern population?
KidReality: Yep. There, Heaven hasn't
evolved from a spiritual polar state into a place you go after you die. It's
called Nirvana, Satori, and a host of other names, and is direct union with the
Divine.
KidReality: Here and now.
iminaquichephase: so the more of the masses
acheive this state in the east?
KidReality: The Hindus have the
"most correct" idea of God, I think.
KidReality: More try.
iminaquichephase: i see
KidReality: But they're all full of
shit, too.
KidReality: Any organized religion is.
KidReality: God can only be
experienced without the use of symbology or ritual.... only here and now while
still and quiet.
iminaquichephase: you think the symbolism
is just used for those who arent ready to accept the truth?
KidReality: Like I said: Religion
(which is symbol/ritual-based) is to cling; Faith (which is not) is to let go.
KidReality: It is words themselves
that distort the models they convey.
iminaquichephase: yeah
iminaquichephase: no matter what i've been told about reality it doesnt make sense
until i experience it
KidReality: Quiet and still, here and
now.
iminaquichephase: the words are useless but
when i get there i can look back and see the meaning
iminaquichephase: now, looking back,
"here and now" makes sense
iminaquichephase: before i would just shake
off the words and say i get it without a real understanding
iminaquichephase: if that makes sense
KidReality: It's only without words,
symbols, ritual, desire, or ego, that you can be like Jesus when he said
"I and the Father are one."
iminaquichephase: yeah
iminaquichephase: does getting in the Here
and Now grow easier with practice?
KidReality: The Christian word
"grace" is closely related to this issue. It's not something that you
acheive by practice. It is simply a matter of letting go of EVERYTHING.
iminaquichephase: i see
iminaquichephase: i remember having my
first Here-Now experience during puberty along with many other
"trippy" feelings off infinity
iminaquichephase: it seems other guys seem
to have had these feelings...
iminaquichephase: does the experience come
as easily to females?
KidReality: Nope.
KidReality: But it does.
iminaquichephase: and this is the reason
for the male hierarchy in the christian church and other religions?
KidReality: Of course.
KidReality: My most successful
protege' so far is female.
iminaquichephase: Lace?
KidReality: Unfortunately, no. But she
has gotten there on occasion and understands that's where I spend almost all my
time.
iminaquichephase: so is the difference in
ability to experience this due to chemicals?
iminaquichephase: the kind made during
puberty on up?
KidReality: Chemicals aren't
necessary, but they do help in the correct setting.
KidReality: Especially Lysergic Acid
Diethylamide 25.
iminaquichephase: LSD?
KidReality: Yep. All the plants
containing LSA are good, too, but not as potent.
KidReality: Lysergic Acid Amide, that
is....
iminaquichephase: and DMT is similar?
KidReality: No, DMT is an entirely
different thing.
KidReality: And, I believe is not a
good drug for out-of-ego experiences.
iminaquichephase: isnt Dmt in the spine?
KidReality: Not that I know of.
iminaquichephase: what do you know about
enlightenment by "direct transmission"?
iminaquichephase: i think Watts said it
like: an enlightened person passes enlightenment directly from himself to
anyone ready to recieve it
iminaquichephase: without words, without
nothin
KidReality: That's true.
KidReality: To be enlightened is to be
the very image of God.
KidReality: God knows God.
KidReality: But the vast majority are
never to know.
KidReality: This is how We keep
ourselves entertained, after all.
iminaquichephase: until recently, i've been
seeing these mysterious people everwhere i go... seems that one person (them of
myself) takes a passive role in the spontaneous eye-contact that takes place...
then, after a few days, i notice my reality is changing
KidReality: It's awfully boring
sitting around for milennia, knowing everything, being all-powerful, all
pervading, and all.
iminaquichephase: lol, yeah
KidReality: You must forget Yourself.
KidReality: And here W E are.
iminaquichephase: what color are your
natural eyes?
KidReality: An orangish-green.
KidReality: Yours?
iminaquichephase: it seems those people i
mentioned above have the same physical traits
iminaquichephase: grey-green-blue (changing
slightly from time to time)
KidReality: Everywhere I go, I see the
heads turn en masse.
iminaquichephase: the female always have
dark, dark brown-black hair and matching color hair
iminaquichephase: i know just what you
mean!
iminaquichephase: heads turning
iminaquichephase: i mean matchin eye color
KidReality: Seekers always recognize
the Enlightened.
KidReality: And vice versa.
iminaquichephase: i see, one truely
interesting game : )
KidReality: It's better than the
alternative.
iminaquichephase: lol, well said
KidReality: Being God is like being
nothing.
KidReality: It's like being dead.
iminaquichephase: but those who arent
seeking never seem to understand...
KidReality: "he died so that we
may live" and all that...
KidReality: Most will never
understand. If most did, the game would be over.
iminaquichephase: "certain things to
be revealed when the curtain comes down"
iminaquichephase: jesus said some stuff
about that...
iminaquichephase: oh yeah, seek and ye
shall find.... i can truely understand that now
KidReality: Most people would kill you
for opening their eyes. Just ask Jesus.
iminaquichephase: lol, yeah
KidReality: Even if they ask you for
answers, most don't really want to hear the truth.
iminaquichephase: true
iminaquichephase: well, i best be goin
iminaquichephase: school's early :-\
KidReality: Ok, then. Nice chat. Sleep
well.
iminaquichephase: thanx man, it's been
real. you too

Session 2:
iminaquichephase: wanna play a game?
iminaquichephase: ill be lutheran, you be
you
KidReality: Why Lutheran?
iminaquichephase: i want to see how you'd
blow a mind... maybe i can battle test it
iminaquichephase: im lutheran
iminaquichephase: my school at least
KidReality: I try not do blow minds. I
just deprogram them.
iminaquichephase: ok, wanna play?
KidReality: I guess...
iminaquichephase: are you a good person?
KidReality: I can only do the will of
God.
iminaquichephase: have you ever lied?
KidReality: Is that a yes or no
question?
iminaquichephase: it is a yes or no
question
KidReality: Yes.
iminaquichephase: ever stolen something? no
matter how small
KidReality: Yes. I stole a pack of
Tums once when I was 6... that's it.
iminaquichephase: ever lusted after a
woman?
KidReality: Of course.
iminaquichephase: so that'd make you a
lier, thief, and adulterer, at least on some level, right?
KidReality: All people are.
iminaquichephase: and forgiveness is an
option for all people
KidReality: Sure.
iminaquichephase: and redemption
KidReality: I would have to believe in
a Redeemer.... sorry.
KidReality: It's ALL up to you.
iminaquichephase: what can i do to change
what ive done?
KidReality: Nothing.
KidReality: Just don't do it in the
first place.
iminaquichephase: we all slip
KidReality: Wrong.
KidReality: Everyone does exactly what
they want to do. Nothing else.
iminaquichephase: so you have no regret?
KidReality: None.
KidReality: I've always done the best
I had with what I had at every moment.
KidReality: Nothing can go against the
will of God.
KidReality: Let go.
iminaquichephase: murder and theft are not
against the will of God?
KidReality: All activity is caused by
God. What power is equal to God's?
KidReality: What is not God?
KidReality: God loves a killer.
KidReality: In nature, the most
efficient killers win and are propagated.
iminaquichephase: then why not kill?
KidReality: You face the consequences
of your actions here and now.
iminaquichephase: but in nature killing is
not done out of anger or jealousy or hate
KidReality: How do you know that?
KidReality: Actually, many lower
animals kill for land, for mates, for dominance, power... all the things we do
it for...
KidReality: This is the way of God.
iminaquichephase: where do you draw the
line between animal and man?
iminaquichephase: or is there one
KidReality: I don't. Man is carnal.
KidReality: You can't deny being made
of meat.
iminaquichephase: of course not
iminaquichephase: but is every one of man's
actions taken out of need like the animal's?
KidReality: The Latin root for carnal
is "carni," which is, literally, meat.
KidReality: We all do God's will.
There is nothing else.
iminaquichephase: why not go on a school
shooting rampage?
KidReality: Guilt. Remorse. These keep
us in check.
KidReality: I don't need to be threatened
with eternity in hell to know better than to do something like that.
iminaquichephase: why have remorse? if any
action i make is divine
KidReality: True.
KidReality: But you would.
KidReality: These emotions are what
regulate our activity. If not for them, we would overpopulate and destroy
ourselves almost immediately.
iminaquichephase: i could condition myself
to believe this "truth"... id imagine a lot of mass murderers have
KidReality: you misinterpret.
KidReality: There is no escape from
the consequences of your own actions.
iminaquichephase: but there can be escape
from remorse
KidReality: True.
KidReality: What you are talking about
is generally what Christians call "grace."
iminaquichephase: so then, is the desire to live without consequences of
our actions the only reason to restrain ourselves?
KidReality: Desire is the root of all
suffering.
iminaquichephase: yes
KidReality: Pride, greed, lust, envy,
covetousness.……
iminaquichephase: so remorse and desire cannot be the reasons to respect one another
KidReality: Nope. Fear.
KidReality: Fear regulates our
behavior.
iminaquichephase: and fear apears to the
masses
iminaquichephase: *appeals
KidReality: Everything people do is to
decrease their fear level.
KidReality: They pursue pleasure and
escape pain. Simple.
iminaquichephase: but when fear occupies
our brains we start building bigger nukes until the fear orgasm wears down
iminaquichephase: cold wars, school
shootings, and genocide
KidReality: Yes, we do it on a very
large scale.
iminaquichephase: i have the feeling you
dont want fear to be your major motivator either
KidReality: I think everything, in the
end, is motivated by fear.
KidReality: Greed - fear of being
broke. Lust - fear of being alone. Envy - fear of being inferior, etc..
iminaquichephase: all "sins"
KidReality: But fear is the real cause
of suffering, not sin.
iminaquichephase: what about desire?
KidReality: And fear is only a
by-product of desire.
KidReality: Therefore, if you cast off
all your desires, you cannot sin.
KidReality: SIN, as I see it, is only
a barrier to enlightenment.
iminaquichephase: what do you feel when
without remorse or fear or desire?
KidReality: Be quiet and still, here
and now, and you will see.
iminaquichephase: but isnt sin, by
definition, going against the will of God? which is not possible (?)
KidReality: Only to the stupid
Christian masses.
KidReality: One cannot go against the
will of God.
KidReality: Period.
iminaquichephase: what does sin mean to
you?
KidReality: Sin is simply a barrier to
Enlightenment.
KidReality: Enlightenment is the
realization of one's own Godhead.
iminaquichephase: a barrier obstructing the
feeling of being one with god
KidReality: Jesus said "I and the
Father are one."
KidReality: While Adam "walked
with God."
KidReality: there's a difference.
KidReality: True illumination is
derived from realization that there is no separation of Creator and creation.
iminaquichephase: Jesus then would allow
salvation from sin, from remorse of the past, and allow oneness to be obtained
in the Now
KidReality: Bingo.
iminaquichephase: even if just as a symbol
KidReality: When you know you can only
do the will of God, you cannot possibly go wrong.
iminaquichephase: but nothing we can say is
free of symbolism
KidReality: But with this knowledge comes
responsibility.
KidReality: You, youself, are a
"symbol" of God.
KidReality: "Let us make man in
our own image"
KidReality: Even the direct reality
you perceive is nothing but your mind's interior reconstruction of it.
iminaquichephase: so Jesus can serve as a Redeemer for the sins and
obstructions of man's past- allowing freedom from remorse of the past and fear
of the future.... to live Now, forever, one with God
KidReality: That's the point.
KidReality: Not Jesus, necessarily,
but what he represents.
iminaquichephase: so christianity's not so
off based
KidReality: No, just twisted.
KidReality: It's taken too literally.
iminaquichephase: yes, we must remember the
symbols
KidReality: The main thing the story
of Jesus tells me is if you go around making people realize they're God, the
carnal powers that be will have you killed.
KidReality: The lesson here being that
most are not to know.
iminaquichephase: "I shall chose you,
one in a thousand and two in ten thousand, and you shall be joined into one
flesh."
KidReality: Bingo.
iminaquichephase: the lotus needs compost
KidReality: Only a very few of us are
allowed to see.
KidReality: Good one!
iminaquichephase: i got that from a good
article
iminaquichephase: ill give you a link here
in a min. if you want
KidReality: It's nothing to be proud
of, and is a huge responsibility to be the eyes and ears of God.
iminaquichephase: but shit bro, the hunt is
fuuuuuun!
iminaquichephase: better than fiction man
KidReality: I have nothing to hunt
for. I'm there.
iminaquichephase: im still workin
KidReality: When you can do nothing
and just BE......
iminaquichephase: not as if it's a method
or anything
KidReality: I AM.
iminaquichephase: just holding on until i
find what i need to let go of
KidReality: Not I was or I will be but
I AM.
iminaquichephase: or until i get out of the
school system, lol
iminaquichephase: i've felt that many
times.... im learning to control it
KidReality: Faith is a constant
letting go.
KidReality: Every moment, letting go
of fear and desire.
iminaquichephase: what does it mean to
"be joined into one flesh"?
KidReality: If you are
"righteous" in this way, nothing will stand against you.
KidReality: In what context?
KidReality: It can mean to have sex,
to become part of a group, etc...
iminaquichephase: "a body of
christ" and in " i shall chose you.... and you shall become one
flesh."
KidReality: The physical body of
Christ, as presented by the church, is made up of the "cells" of it's
members. The spiritual Body of Christ lives on thru their rituals (communion,
etc).
KidReality: This is the literal
resurrection.
KidReality: But in this way they
separate themselves from Christ, when the very thing they need to do is become
Christ-like themselves.
iminaquichephase: i can get that " if
you are 'righteous' in this way"... "in this way"... like if it
is in your nature to know the truth you will find it.... from childhood i new i
was different... from childhood i was the one who would know- in a way then, i
always knew
KidReality: We always do. And we are
compelled to pass it on. Just make sure you are pure-minded before you try to
pass it to other seekers.
KidReality: Free from egoistic desire
and fear.
iminaquichephase: i think others that knew
while i was a child could look at me and know.... i think i see children now
who will find it.... sometimes they say "Hi" too me
iminaquichephase: speaking in the spirit?
KidReality: Yep.
iminaquichephase: there were times when id
just kinda "zone out" and talk and say the most perfect and helpful
things
iminaquichephase: its amazing how the
universe aligns to provide the same realizations to us.... thought i was crazy-
no one got it... then, to see person after person with the same ideas- man, i
new somethin was up
KidReality: It's God's mirror.
iminaquichephase: tell me about the
responsabilities of being God's eyes and ears
KidReality: People have been talking
about it (and getting killed for it) for thousands and thousands of years.
iminaquichephase: good thing to get killed
over... better than for gambling or in fighting or other domesticated primate
activities
iminaquichephase: death aint nothin
KidReality: Regardless of what you
know, you're still a carnal being (made of meat) and are susceptible to all
it's pitfalls.
KidReality: Death means nothing to he
who knows he is only an aspect of the Eternal.
iminaquichephase: no remorse, no fear, no
desire... only serious agape style love man.... only something beyond me to
control me
KidReality: There is nothing beyond
you. You are God become flesh.
KidReality: 'I and the Father are
one."
KidReality: And not just Jesus....
iminaquichephase: beyond the most
controling parts of ego at
least
KidReality: Ego is necessary for God
to forget Himself.
KidReality: Except in some who are
ready to accept who they are..
iminaquichephase: what about then?
KidReality: Eh?
iminaquichephase: what about when someone
accecpts the truth, what happens to ego?
KidReality: It can't ever really go
completely away or you would cease to exist.
KidReality: You can only fly so close
to the Sun without getting burned.
KidReality: Ask Icarus.
iminaquichephase: lol, yeah
iminaquichephase: rock as ego... can i have
an ego the size of a rock?
KidReality: All this religion and
mythology describes the same thing, but it's always misinterpreted.
KidReality: Ego has no physical
properties.
iminaquichephase: i mean, a rock has an
ego, in order to exist
KidReality: No, I should have said
"self-awareness."
iminaquichephase: ok
KidReality: Existence, as a human, is
to be self aware.
KidReality: Something doesn't have to
be self-aware to exist.
iminaquichephase: are animals self-aware?
KidReality: I don't know. Ask them.
KidReality: Are you?
iminaquichephase: now there's a question
KidReality: Are you self aware or Self
aware?
iminaquichephase: are you aware of your
self being Self-aware?
KidReality: There is an eternal
awareness that watches It's creation thru my eyes.
KidReality: And only in this way do I
have a glimpse of immortality.
KidReality: Because I and the Father
are one.
KidReality: This is eternal life.
KidReality: My little ego and meatsack
is only a flash in the pan.
KidReality: Just another small peice
of fruit on the gigantic God tree.
iminaquichephase: is this Now feeling what
emerson meant by that feeling of Transcendence?
KidReality: To transcend means to go
beyond a partiucular boundary. What Emerson's boundary was, I'm not sure.
KidReality: To me transcendentalism is
to acheive union with the Divine by transcending the ego and it's attachments.
iminaquichephase: yeah
KidReality: But NOW is the only thing
that exists. The past and future are constructs of your mind.
iminaquichephase: emerson was a good step
in christain-american pop-culture
iminaquichephase: at least
iminaquichephase: i think the Matrix is
another jump
KidReality: The Matrix is good
mythology.
iminaquichephase: yes, much much more
powerful in pop-culture than church
KidReality: Christianity is dying.
KidReality: They have forgotten.
iminaquichephase: millions of people
questioning reality, all because of a movie- it's a beautiful thing
iminaquichephase: caught in fear and past
KidReality: Questioning it is the
first step towards improving it.
iminaquichephase: exactly
iminaquichephase: a lot of barriers have
been thrown down in the past 40 years
iminaquichephase: yeah,
iminaquichephase: but i can still see jesus
as a useful image
KidReality: The crucifixion in
particular has layers of wonderful symbolism.
iminaquichephase: yeah
KidReality: The book of Genesis is
also wonderfully layered with spiritual symbolism and is my favorite religious
text, next to the Tao Te Ching.
iminaquichephase: what were your goals in
this essay? conversion? deprograming?
KidReality: It's something the
enlightened are compelled to do, even at the expense of their own reputations
and lives. This is God's will.
KidReality: I'd say that I'm more
Taoist than anything.
KidReality: I like hinduism, too, tho.
KidReality: I would suggest you read
the entire Tao Te Ching several times.
KidReality: It truly is "The Way
Of Heaven."
iminaquichephase: i just bought the
Analects and some nietzche today
iminaquichephase: oh yeah, ive read the Tao
te Ching once before.... makes more sense everytime i look at it
KidReality: Even Christ referred to it
on more than one occasion. It is "The Way" when he says he is the
Truth, The Way, and The Light. Parts of
“The Sermon On The Mount” seem to be almost direct quotes from the Tao Te
Ching.
iminaquichephase: christians take that to
mean that he is the only way
to heaven
KidReality: Tao Te Ching translated
literally into "The way of water" or "the way of Heaven"
KidReality: All religions were
intended to lead people to enlightenment. Unfortunately, it usually just does
the opposite. This is also the Will of god.
iminaquichephase: jesus read the Tao Te
Ching ?
iminaquichephase: or perhaps just observed
the Tao
KidReality: Of course. The Tao Te
Ching was written before Christ’s birth.
iminaquichephase: would it be made
available to common folk?
KidReality: Christ was a Jewish Rabi
and religious scholar. Of course he had access to these types of records.
iminaquichephase: no press, books were very
hard to come by, especially to a carpenter boy
KidReality: I'm a sommon man; well
versed in world religion.
KidReality: All these same documents
have been available throughout the centuries.
KidReality: But the Tao Te Ching says
it all.
iminaquichephase: yeah
KidReality: I see Christianity as a
hodgepodge of earlier religions, to include Taoism, paganism, and worship of
the old Greek and roman gods (as well as records of visitors from another dimension
or planet)
iminaquichephase: i began to realize that trying doesnt help sometimes, that
sometimes it's best to let it flow..... then i read the Tao Te Ching- new
somethin was up
KidReality: To BE, not to Do.
iminaquichephase: yeah
iminaquichephase: i think that's what it
felt like to speak in the spirit
KidReality: Right.
iminaquichephase: i think ive got a couple
points you might want to address
KidReality: What are those?
iminaquichephase: i think it would be good
to address the effectiveness of Jesus as a symbol (at least) to free the mind
from past remorse and future worries so that the present may be felt
iminaquichephase: but only when jesus is
understood
KidReality: I believe that only living
individuals should be viewed as images of God. Not dead people.
KidReality: "Thou shalt not
worship any graven image"
KidReality: I believe this includes
Jesus.
KidReality: God has no image but us.
KidReality: And we are fleeting
images, not graven.
iminaquichephase: i think jesus can be
helpful to those that need him at the moment
KidReality: That is weakness. God
hates weakness. The strength of God comes from acceptance and letting go, not
clinging to symbols for emotional support.
KidReality: God helps only those who
help themselves.
iminaquichephase: some people are weak in
nature.... accepting jesus maybe be the best he could hope for
KidReality: To be religious is to
cling. To have faith is to let go.
KidReality: These types of people are
prey.
KidReality: God loves a predator.
iminaquichephase: god loves the weak, they
are God as well
KidReality: Correct.
KidReality: And together, we forget
Ouselves for a while.
KidReality: You're there.
KidReality: No good and evil, no fear
or desire.
KidReality: Standing in between,
watching.
iminaquichephase: yep
KidReality: Ta da.
iminaquichephase: are you assuming i cling
to jesus?
KidReality: Yes.
iminaquichephase: i cling to the separation
of good and evil
KidReality: It is obvious that you do
and this is the source of your turmoil.
KidReality: There are no such things.
KidReality: Only your own pain and
pleasure.
KidReality: Just because your language
splits reality in half doesn't mean it really has two sides.
KidReality: You problem is rooted in
your clinging to symbolism, be it the image of the crucifixion or the words you
use.
KidReality: Without words, still and
quiet, here and now.
KidReality: It's the only path.
KidReality: That's why I say all
religions are wrong and always will be.
iminaquichephase: are you right?
KidReality: There is no right.
KidReality: Or wrong.
KidReality: When I said wrong, I meant
they are not paths to enlightenment.
KidReality: In fact, they are
distractions.
iminaquichephase: yet they have assisted in
constructing us
KidReality: We constructed religion,
not the other way around.
iminaquichephase: but events tied to
religion have brought us to this point
KidReality: Religion is the feeble
attempt of the unenlightened to mimic the words and actions of the enlightened.
iminaquichephase: it's all still Us'es and
They's
KidReality: But now you're talking
historical events. I'm talking everlasting God, here and now.
KidReality: Misinterpretation of
scripture is the main problem with our society.
KidReality: And most others.
KidReality: The problem is that most
people aren't ready to accept the Truth.
KidReality: And that is also the Will
of God.
iminaquichephase: im Here, Now, so there is
no problem
KidReality: Nothing to gain, nothing
to lose, nowhere to go, nothing to be.
KidReality: How can one with no
expectations ever be disappointed?
KidReality: Each moment is a miracle.
Why do you think it's called the PRESENT (as in a gift)?
iinaquichephase: haha, yeah
KidReality: And ONLY in the present
will you find the 'real" God.
KidReality: But to do that, you
youself must be completely in the present.
KidReality: And that is faith.
iminaquichephase: **pops a zit**
KidReality: With faith, there is no
need for religion.
KidReality: Religion becomes a
childish joke.
iminaquichephase: i still think it would be
a good idea to point out jesus as a
way to separate from past and future to live in Now
KidReality: I disagree.
iminaquichephase: instead of attacking
jesus straight out
KidReality: I'm not attacking Jesus,
I'm just saying Jesus is a Graven Image of God, and leads people away from the
true living God.
iminaquichephase: ok, just tryin to soften
the blow
KidReality: If we use Jesus as a
symbol of Godhead, that implies it's not available to everyone.
KidReality: And therein lies the main
problem.
iminaquichephase: yes, that's what got me
looking in the first place- True God should be available to everyone
KidReality: Symbols of God (like
Jesus) are hinderances to enlightenment... they don't help at all.
KidReality: Symbols (including words)
and clinging to them is another one of the main reasons for all human
suffering.
iminaquichephase: and no word-symbols you
have heard have aided in your enlightenment?
KidReality: Because in doing so, they
no longer represent God themselves and are separated.
KidReality: Only quiet and still, here
and now, without words, desire, fear, or attachment.
KidReality: Words that correctly
describe enlightenment can only be understood "correctly" by those
who are already in the know anyhow. Words don't do it. "You can lead a
horse to water, but you can't make it drink."
iminaquichephase: ok then, i know what you
mean.... only in hindsite can i see the true meaning of "Here" and
"Now"
KidReality: Wrong. You are still
dwelling in the past.
KidReality: Here and Now, there IS NO
PAST OR FUTURE.
KidReality: There is only the eternal
now. It is the only thing that exists. Everything else is a construct of your
mind.
quichephase: but you mentioning the symbols triggers something
KidReality: Triggers what?
KidReality: What is it you think I'm
doing here?
KidReality: I'm leading this horse to
water. You have to drink for yourself.
iminaquichephase: you're word-symbols lead
me to the water
KidReality: I only use them to point
the way, not as symbols of the eternal themselves.
iminaquichephase: that's what they trigger,
the instinct to drink
KidReality: You already knew.
KidReality: And just needed
confirmation. This is always the case.
iminaquichephase: the man-symbol jesus
points
KidReality: "Thou shalt not
worship any graven image"
iminaquichephase: i dont worship your words
or jesus'
iminaquichephase: but they guide
KidReality: That's what they're for.
KidReality: Literal interpretation of
scripture is a stupid thing.
iminaquichephase: maybe you could soften
the blows on jesus : )
KidReality: Most of it merely
"points" to the Divine Nature.
KidReality: Nope.
iminaquichephase: ok
KidReality: Jesus is a graven image of
God, forbidden centuries before Jesus was born.
KidReality: Everyone can be Jesus.
KidReality: He's not the only one.
KidReality: And therefore can't
exclusively epitomize God.
KidReality: We all are the sons and
daughters of God.
iminaquichephase: ok
KidReality: Although Jesus was
obviously enlightened and should be remembered for his sacrifice to point it
out to people.
iminaquichephase: do you love jesus?
KidReality: As much as I love myself.
iminaquichephase: ok
iminaquichephase: good answer : )
KidReality: We are one.
KidReality: The Spirit is in you and
is emerging into awareness. You will soon be able to weild It's power. what
will you do with this power?
iminaquichephase: flow?
KidReality: Ha!
KidReality: All authority comes from
God. The closer you get, the more they obey.
KidReality: You become the still and
quiet center of the cyclone.
KidReality: And they become your
children.
iminaquichephase: was "flow" a
good answer or not/
KidReality: Yes.
KidReality: Will you be a good father
to them?
iminaquichephase: in order to understand and to obtain this power i think
i'd have to
KidReality: There's a good reason they
called Christ a shepherd.
KidReality: So am I.
KidReality: We all are.
KidReality: Once you are
"aware," you can choose to be sheep, wolf, or shepherd.
iminaquichephase: why be wolf?
KidReality: And be successful at
any...
KidReality: Does not the flock need
thinning?
KidReality: And what use is the shepherd
without the wolf?
iminaquichephase: the wolf picks off the
weak
KidReality: It's The Way of god.
iminaquichephase: are you a wolf? : )
KidReality: I am.
KidReality: But I am also the
shepherd.
iminaquichephase: pickin me off, the sick
and weak one?
KidReality: No, bringing you into
"shepherdhood."
iminaquichephase: how can a sheep be a
shephard?
KidReality: Where else would they come
from?
iminaquichephase: sheep dont know where men
come from
iminaquichephase: and men dont know where
god comes from?
KidReality: Your train of thought is a
self-distraction.
iminaquichephase: lol, i know
KidReality: It's a big responsibility.
iminaquichephase: it just seemed fun
iminaquichephase: who is a wolf, what does
a wolf do?
KidReality: Thin the herd.
KidReality: I have no college degree
but make six figures a year as a debt collector.
KidReality: This is my predatorial
aspect.
iminaquichephase: i have met a few
shepherds, but im not sure about wolves
KidReality: Most are disguised as
sheep.
iminaquichephase: more games
KidReality: The problem with being at
the top of the food chain is that you must prey upon youselves.
iminaquichephase: what do you mean?
KidReality: What is above a human in
the carnal food chain?
KidReality: We have no natural
predators except ourselves.
iminaquichephase: oh, i see
KidReality: Thus the wolf, sheep, and
shepherd analogy.
iminaquichephase: are you a prophet? can
you see fire?
KidReality: I assume no labels.
KidReality: I see nothing special.
KidReality: I simply point in the
direction you seek.
iminaquichephase: ever seen something
special, then have it come true?
KidReality: Almost every day.
KidReality: When you are quiet and
still, here and now, you are open to many things you might've never expected...
KidReality: It's a special form of
sensitization.
iminaquichephase: yeah, ive seen things
like that
KidReality: It's nothing to be proud
of. In fact, pride is a barrier to it.
KidReality: It must simply be let go
of to grasp.
iminaquichephase: yeah, i found that out
after a while
iminaquichephase: only when im completely
passive
KidReality: It humbles me completely.
I am nothing.
iminaquichephase: parents christian?
KidReality: Nope, old anarchistic,
athiestic hippies. I was raised on a hippie commune, of sorts.
iminaquichephase: i see
KidReality: I had to find things out
for myself, and it's made all the difference.
iminaquichephase: for me, i find it easy to
accept foreign scriptures with an open mind.... but at this time, it is very
hard to view the bible without disowning it and being against it........ i
suppose because all my progress had at first been made by moving away from the bible
iminaquichephase: wish i could read it from
a fresh perspective
KidReality: The Bible has lots of
wonderful pointings to Godhead. It is also filled with twisted bullshit.
KidReality: It's that confusion of the
physical God(s) and the eternal God......
KidReality: I can read Genesis over
and over and over again.
iminaquichephase: ive got too many years of
baggage with it
KidReality: Cast it off. Be here now.
iminaquichephase: maybe if i had some
weed....
iminaquichephase: haha ha
KidReality: It's just a mental leap.
You don't need any help.
iminaquichephase: thinking's a habit
iminaquichephase: but living Now is more
frequent
iminaquichephase: if you know what i mean
iminaquichephase: like breaking an
addiction
KidReality: Thinking is a barrier to
enlightenment but necessary to exist as a carnal being.
iminaquichephase: does controling the
switch become easier?
KidReality: Yes.
KidReality: It's as easy as stopping
your line of thought.
KidReality: Divine nature is not
linear. Thought is.
KidReality: Thought is just another
Self-imposed distraction.
KidReality: But necessary as a carnal
being.
iminaquichephase: man, we have been talkin
for a while
KidReality: Yeah, I really need to go
to bed, since I have to get up in six hours.
iminaquichephase: let's go to bed : )
KidReality: Good idea. Talk to you
later.
iminaquichephase: yeah teehe
iminaquichephase: well, do i uhhh....
thank(?) you?
Session 3:
iminaquichephase: are you familiar with the
I-ching?
KidReality: I have a nice hardbound
copy and cast readings (using coins instead of yarrow stalks) occasionally. I
don't put too much stock in divination.
iminaquichephase: today i got the 64th
hexagram...
iminaquichephase: it's always so right on
KidReality: I'd just rather use a
Magic 8-Ball.
iminaquichephase: eeeh, that method doesnt
usually work
KidReality: None of them do.
iminaquichephase: hmm
iminaquichephase: never worked for you?
KidReality: Nope. Just never really
needed 'em, either.
iminaquichephase: why not?
KidReality: I have faith.
iminaquichephase: how is the ego reborn?
KidReality: It's not.
iminaquichephase: is it re-assembled?
KidReality: It never actually dies,
it's just put away for a time.
KidReality: You still need it to
function as a meatsack.
iminaquichephase: hehe
iminaquichephase: im tired of being a
meatsack
KidReality: It's the only way,
unfortunately.
iminaquichephase: bummer
KidReality: .....better than the
alternative.....
iminaquichephase: i guess
iminaquichephase: maybe i need a gun
iminaquichephase: and a pumpkin
KidReality: "To be or not to
be... that is the question..."
iminaquichephase: yep, that's one damn good
question
iminaquichephase: im here now, might as
well chill for a while- see what happens
KidReality: What can possibly go
against the Will of God?
iminaquichephase: turtles in top-hats
KidReality: Nope.
iminaquichephase: anything the mind can
conceive is in the will of god?
KidReality: Of course.
KidReality: EVERYTHING.
KidReality: Free will, although
seemingly tangible, is an illusion.
iminaquichephase: yeah
KidReality: It is all nothing but the
dream of The Brahman.
iminaquichephase: i wonder if the brahman
would come over and play Jet moto for playstation if i invited him
iminaquichephase: we could chill
KidReality: Yep.
iminaquichephase: snack packs
iminaquichephase: baaah hah ah!
iminaquichephase: how can i get the brahman
to come chill with me?
KidReality: You are He.
iminaquichephase:
HEAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
iminaquichephase: everytime i push away the
truth my life gets more fucked up
KidReality: Yep.
iminaquichephase: maybe i should accept it
by now
KidReality: Faith = acceptance.
KidReality: Faith is the path to
Heaven.
iminaquichephase: chaos is settling... i
think its time
KidReality: There is no chaos - just
the Self-imposed ignorance of the ego.
iminaquichephase: it seems chaotic when
something ego-altering is goin down
iminaquichephase: do you believe in
"spirit"?
iminaquichephase: seems like it gets confused
with emotion and conciousness a lot.. the lines are fuzzy outside
KidReality: There is only one Spirit.
It is eternal.
iminaquichephase: and the spirit has become
concious sometimes?
iminaquichephase: or carnage becomes
concious
KidReality: The Spirit imposes
ignorance and limitation upon Itself in order to experience life as a carnal
being.
KidReality: Or all beings, if you
will...
KidReality: There's nothing that
happens that wasn't meant to happen…..
KidReality: ….the flesh and everything that goes with it.
iminaquichephase: i think im a sleep addict
for the same reason
KidReality: It is escape for the ego,
like taking on a body is escape for God.
KidReality: Creation takes the traits
of Creator.
iminaquichephase: once you realize youre
god, what do you do?
iminaquichephase: what does god do to pass
the time?
KidReality: That's up to you.
KidReality: You can't do wrong.
iminaquichephase: a shooting rampage aint
wrong?
iminaquichephase: cuz dayyym, that kick is
sumpin
KidReality: It depends who you're
talking to about it.
KidReality: The is no objective right
or wrong.
KidReality: Good and evil are purely
subjective, abstract concepts.
iminaquichephase: a preference of the ego?
KidReality: There is only the
individual's pain or pleasure in reaction to any given stimuli: pain is evil,
pleasure is good.
iminaquichephase: like in the garden
iminaquichephase: genesis
KidReality: The Garden is also Heaven.
KidReality: They are the same place.
iminaquichephase: i see... when we pick
from the tree of knowledge of good and evil we bump ourselves out
KidReality: Bingo.
iminaquichephase: what about the tree of
life?
KidReality: It is actually "the
tree of the knowledge of good and evil" in the original Hebrew.
KidReality: Eating of it was the cause
of the separation of man from God. Get it now?
iminaquichephase: yeah
KidReality: There is no good and evil.
It is when we draw these lines that suffering enters.
KidReality: This separation is God's
escape from solitude and isolation.
KidReality: Here's my story of Genesis:
KidReality: Generated imperfection
To establish a direction
And gave birth to a perception
Self-aware by Self-deception
iminaquichephase: i've felt and discovered
predestination a lot in my own like but it's hard to explain to other people.
how do you explain?
iminaquichephase: hey, that;s cool too
KidReality: "Fate vs. Free
Will" is a 10,000 year-old argument and still hasn't been settled.
iminaquichephase: i see
KidReality: If you choose free will,
there is no God. If you choose Fate, then you have no choices.
iminaquichephase: but my ego continues to
make choices because it doesnt understand something outside of linear-life
KidReality: My view is that free will
is an illusion Self-imposed by the Divine Nature in order to live in time and
space as innumerable points of view.
iminaquichephase: every now and then it
looks back, sees everything come together and says, "damn!"
KidReality: Ego is the ignorance God
imposes upon Itself in order to forget knowing everything.
KidReality: This is enlightenment.
"Damn!" We did it.
iminaquichephase: i think jesus meantions
something of that nature in the ol' banned gnostics
KidReality: All this has been written
before, and by many more than one prophet. "There is nothing new under the
sun."
iminaquichephase: back when i started to
see everyting come together like that i had the eyes and heads turning on the
streets.... lately, it's been dull for some reason
KidReality: This concept has been
explained in hundreds of ways but, as you may now know is an inherent part of
the plan, it will always be misunderstood except for just a few of us.
Otherwise, the Game would be over.
KidReality: You are learning it is not
God's will to cast your pearls before swine.
iminaquichephase: what's that mean?
KidReality: It's in the Bible:
"Cast not thy pearls before swine.."
iminaquichephase: i wasnt in the Now as
much back then... it seems like im losing something
KidReality: You're losing everything.
Don't worry, you'll gain it back.
iminaquichephase: why am i losing it all?
iminaquichephase: i could tell i was
progressing before, now it's like im taking a big step back
KidReality: "Unless ye become
likened unto a little child, ye shall not enter the Kingdom of Heaven."
KidReality: There is no progression or
regression.

Eternal isolation
Led the One to contemplation
Of It's own emancipation
Through an other's
generation.
Polar separation,
The initial operation,
Though produced by
Self-negation,
Was a self-perpetuation.
After segregation
By opposer-activation,
The Observer's observation
Had begun his education.
So, predestination,
As a further complication,
Bore the victims of
temptation
And the means of their
salvation.
True illumination
Is derived from realization
That there is no separation
Of Creator and creation.
Everything done means
there's nothing to do,
Everything said, and it's
quiet,
Everywhere visited blocks
all escape;
Everything sold and who'll
buy it?
No space between won't allow
deviation,
No evil means no more right,
No other choice after all
has been chosen;
No pain is no more delight.
Something designed takes the
traits of Designer,
Something redundant makes
new,
Something to do is escape
from the stillness;
Something, as one, must be
two.
Everything done and there's
nothing to do,
Everything said and why
speak?
Everything equal means
absence of food,
Everything strong eats the
weak.
All things are one but
maintain opposition,
All life, persisting, must
kill,
All forms are shapeless and
useless alone;
All, undivided, is still.

Transcendental hide and seek
And Supersoul denial
Provide the all-pervading
One
A challenge and a trial.
Man became the child of God,
The multitude of faces,
Escaping lonely nothingness
From nowhere to all places.
Conceived af First Division,
The Awareness had decreed
That freedom through
imprisonment
Was the only way, indeed.
Being is impossible
Unless it's validated
By Something that created
it,
And by what It created.
Ignorance perpetuates
The lie that is the Truth
And lets the Ancient One,

Anarchy,
Freedom, and Death: Why is it people
can't seem to notice that these three words (among many others like them)
represent extreme theoretical states that do not exist?
I heard about a schoolgirl in West Virginia
who was suspended for attempting to form an organization of local
"anarchists," and had even drawn up a charter to govern their
behavior. Since a state of anarchy, by
definition, would require a total lack of organization, this is a completely
self-contradictory endeavor. Only when
every single human being upon the Earth is self-sufficient and independent of
any other will anarchy have a chance to become a tangible reality. Otherwise, an attempt to impose
"anarchy" on humanity would result only in mob rule.
For years, I've wondered exactly what people mean when they use the word freedom. Some see it as the same thing as anarchy: freedom from government. These tend to be the stronger, independent ones; however, a person who's a bit more dependent upon the collective usually has a slightly more liberal interpretation of what the word means. My idea of true freedom would mean detachment from all of my desires and even my body itself. But this language is deceptive as well, since it implies that I am something separate from my body and do not necessarily require it to exist. If this is true, it stands to reason I would have no need for a body in the first place!
This being the case, why do I hear so
many talking about death as if it were something that could actually be
experienced? They speak of an
"afterlife" where their bodies are no longer necessary. If this is really what people believe about
death then why don't they call it "metamophosis" or
"transition?" And why do they
cry at funerals? If my (soul or
consciousness or ego or whatever it is) marches endlessly on after my body
malfunctions or is destroyed, where was it before my body was conceived? Personal identities, as phenomena which are
"more than the sum of their parts," are dependent on their
"parts" to exist; therefore, death cannot be directly experienced by
the dead. Why worry about what happens
to you when you die when there will be no "you" to which things can
happen?
James E. Fincher II, Copright 2003
I just finished watching a
clip of Billy Graham in the seventies.
He went on and on about reaping what you sow, citing several natural
examples. He then proceeded to explain how
this concept applied to The Great Beyond and how Jesus Christ can save you from
reaping hell in the afterlife. It was
nothing I haven't heard before, but the hateful look in Mr. Graham's eyes as he
talked about the love of God and neighbor was a poignant reminder of the
hypocrisy inherent in popular Christianity and the negative spiritual effect it
has on Christian society, which also happens to be MY society.
Don't get me wrong, it's a good idea to tell most of these
morons that they're going to have to pay for what they do. If we didn't, we'd have a bunch of cretins
with absolutely no fear of the consequences of their own actions running around
destroying everyone and everything before they finally destroyed their idiot
selves. I firmly believe that's the
reason organized religion exists: crowd control. Excluding this purpose, I see religion (all of them, not just
Christianity) as merely a set of symbols which were originally designed to
guide one towards union with the Divine.
At this point, someone would inevitably ask "Union
with the Divine? What's that?"
and, besides saying the same thing Jesus did, "I and the Father are
one," I would have to resort to religious symbolism in an attempt to
explain it. There's the main problem.
Words are inadequate at best and gravely misleading at worst, and you have to
wade through a whole lot of deception to get to the truth. The deception I speak of is the way
organized religion uses one's own guilt and fear against him to keep him coming
back for forgiveness and insuring himself against a trip to Hell. The deception I speak of is the proclamation
by the church that an individual or group can somehow escape the inevitability
of reaping what they sow, in the afterlife or here and now, by accepting their
messiah, an image of God forbidden centuries before. The deception I speak of is the turning of the hearts of men away
from this very moment, which is the only time in which God lives.
So, if crowd control or behavior modification is the true
purpose for the continued existence of organized religion, then we must devise
a way to convince even the most barbaric ruffian that he will reap what he sows
here and now, or at least within his lifetime.
At the same time, we must generate
a set of symbols (without an image of God) that point the way to the true
Heaven, the one that is reaped here and now with the Living God and is also
called Enlightenment, Satori, Nirvana, Union, and a host of other names. This set of symbols would also, necessarily,
be one that was invulnerable to misinterpretation or twisting and utilization
by any church, thereby rendering any surrounding religious organization
purposeless and harmless.
So where do we start?
Any ideas?
An Interpolation by Peter Merel
Part
1
1. The Way
The Way that can be experienced is not true;
The world that can be constructed is not real.
The Way manifests all that happens and may happen;
The world represents all that exists and may exist.
To experience without abstraction is to sense the world;
To experience with abstraction is to know the world.
These two experiences are indistinguishable;
Their construction differs but their effect is the same.
Beyond the gate of experience flows the Way,
Which is ever greater and more subtle than the world.
2. Abstraction
When beauty is abstracted
Then ugliness has been implied;
When good is abstracted
Then evil has been implied.
So alive and dead are abstracted from nature,
Difficult and easy abstracted from progress,
Long and short abstracted from contrast,
High and low abstracted from depth,
Song and speech abstracted from melody,
After and before abstracted from sequence.
The sage experiences without abstraction,
And accomplishes without action;
He accepts the ebb and flow of things,
Nurtures them, but does not own them,
And lives, but does not dwell.
3. Without Action
Not praising the worthy prevents contention,
Not esteeming the valuable prevents theft,
Not displaying the beautiful prevents desire.
In this manner the sage governs people:
Emptying their minds,
Filling their bellies,
Weakening their ambitions,
And strengthening their bones.
If people lack knowledge and desire
Then they can not act;
If no action is taken
Harmony remains.
4. Limitless
The Way is a limitless vessel;
Used by the self, it is not filled by the world;
It cannot be cut, knotted, dimmed or stilled;
Its depths are hidden, ubiquitous and eternal;
I don't know where it comes from;
It comes before nature.
5. Nature
Nature is not kind;
It treats all things impartially.
The Sage is not kind,
And treats all people impartially.
Nature is like a bellows,
Empty, yet never ceasing its supply.
The more it moves, the more it yields;
So the sage draws upon experience
And cannot be exhausted.
6. Experience
Experience is a riverbed,
Its source hidden, forever flowing:
Its entrance, the root of the world,
The Way moves within it:
Draw upon it; it will not run dry.
7. Complete
Nature is complete because it does not serve itself.
The sage places himself after and finds himself before,
Ignores his desire and finds himself content.
He is complete because he does not serve himself.
8. Water
The best of man is like water,
Which benefits all things, and does not contend with them,
Which flows in places that others disdain,
Where it is in harmony with the Way.
So the sage:
Lives within nature,
Thinks within the deep,
Gives within impartiality,
Speaks within trust,
Governs within order,
Crafts within ability,
Acts within opportunity.
He does not contend, and none contend against him.
9. Retire
Fill a cup to its brim and it is easily spilled;
Temper a sword to its hardest and it is easily broken;
Amass the greatest treasure and it is easily stolen;
Claim credit and honour and you easily fall;
Retire once your purpose is achieved - this is natural.
10. Harmony
Embracing the Way, you become embraced;
Breathing gently, you become newborn;
Clearing your mind, you become clear;
Nurturing your children, you become impartial;
Opening your heart, you become accepted;
Accepting the world, you embrace the Way.
Bearing and nurturing,
Creating but not owning,
Giving without demanding,
This is harmony.
11. Tools
Thirty spokes meet at a nave;
Because of the hole we may use the wheel.
Clay is moulded into a vessel;
Because of the hollow we may use the cup.
Walls are built around a hearth;
Because of the doors we may use the house.
Thus tools come from what exists,
But use from what does not.
12. Substance
Too much colour blinds the eye,
Too much music deafens the ear,
Too much taste dulls the palate,
Too much play maddens the mind,
Too much desire tears the heart.
In this manner the sage cares for people:
He provides for the belly, not for the senses;
He ignores abstraction and holds fast to substance.
13. Self
Both praise and blame cause concern,
For they bring people hope and fear.
The object of hope and fear is the self -
For, without self, to whom may fortune and disaster occur?
Therefore,
Who distinguishes himself from the world may be given the world,
But who regards himself as the world may accept the world.
14. Mystery
Looked at but cannot be seen - it is beneath form;
Listened to but cannot be heard - it is beneath sound;
Held but cannot be touched - it is beneath feeling;
These depthless things evade definition,
And blend into a single mystery.
In its rising there is no light,
In its falling there is no darkness,
A continuous thread beyond description,
Lining what does not exist;
Its form formless,
Its image nothing,
Its name silence;
Follow it, it has no back,
Meet it, it has no face.
Attend the present to deal with the past;
Thus you grasp the continuity of the Way,
Which is its essence.
15. Enlightenment
The enlightened possess understanding
So profound they can not be understood.
Because they cannot be understood
I can only describe their appearance:
Cautious as one crossing thin ice,
Undecided as one surrounded by danger,
Modest as one who is a guest,
Unbounded as melting ice,
Genuine as unshaped wood,
Broad as a valley,
Seamless as muddy water.
Who stills the water that the mud may settle,
Who seeks to stop that he may travel on,
Who desires less than what may transpire,
Decays, but will not renew.
16. Decay and Renewal
Empty the self completely;
Embrace perfect peace.
The world will rise and move;
Watch it return to rest.
All the flourishing things
Will return to their source.
This return is peaceful;
It is the flow of nature,
An eternal decay and renewal.
Accepting this brings enlightenment,
Ignoring this brings misery.
Who accepts nature's flow becomes all-cherishing;
Being all-cherishing he becomes impartial;
Being impartial he becomes magnanimous;
Being magnanimous he becomes natural;
Being natural he becomes one with the Way;
Being one with the Way he becomes immortal:
Though his body will decay, the Way will not.
17. Rulers
The best rulers are scarcely known by their subjects;
The next best are loved and praised;
The next are feared;
The next despised:
They have no faith in their people,
And their people become unfaithful to them.
When the best rulers achieve their purpose
Their subjects claim the achievement as their own.
18. Hypocrisy
When the Way is forgotten
Duty and justice appear;
Then knowledge and wisdom are born
Along with hypocrisy.
When harmonious relationships dissolve
Then respect and devotion arise;
When a nation falls to chaos
Then loyalty and patriotism are born.
19. Simplify
If we could discard knowledge and wisdom
Then people would profit a hundredfold;
If we could discard duty and justice
Then harmonious relationships would form;
If we could discard artifice and profit
Then waste and theft would disappear.
Yet such remedies treat only symptoms
And so they are inadequate.
People need personal remedies:
Reveal your naked self and embrace your original nature;
Bind your self-interest and control your ambition;
Forget your habits and simplify your affairs.
20. Wandering
What is the difference between assent and denial?
What is the difference between beautiful and ugly?
What is the difference between fearsome and afraid?
The people are merry as if at a magnificent party
Or playing in the park at springtime,
But I am tranquil and wandering,
Like a newborn before it learns to smile,
Alone, with no true home.
The people have enough and to spare,
Where I have nothing,
And my heart is foolish,
Muddled and cloudy.
The people are bright and certain,
Where I am dim and confused;
The people are clever and wise,
Where I am dull and ignorant;
Aimless as a wave drifting over the sea,
Attached to nothing.
The people are busy with purpose,
Where I am impractical and rough;
I do not share the peoples' cares
But I am fed at nature's breast.
21. Accept
Harmony is only in following the Way.
The Way is without form or quality,
But expresses all forms and qualities;
The Way is hidden and implicate,
But expresses all of nature;
The Way is unchanging,
But expresses all motion.
Beneath sensation and memory
The Way is the source of all the world.
How can I understand the source of the world?
By accepting.
22. Home
Accept and you become whole,
Bend and you straighten,
Empty and you fill,
Decay and you renew,
Want and you acquire,
Fulfill and you become confused.
The sage accepts the world
As the world accepts the Way;
He does not display himself, so is clearly seen,
Does not justify himself, so is recognized,
Does not boast, so is credited,
Does not pride himself, so endures,
Does not contend, so none contend against him.
The ancients said, "Accept and you become whole",
Once whole, the world is as your home.
23. Words
Nature says only a few words:
High wind does not last long,
Nor does heavy rain.
If nature's words do not last
Why should those of man?
Who accepts harmony, becomes harmonious.
Who accepts loss, becomes lost.
For who accepts harmony, the Way harmonizes with him,
And who accepts loss, the Way cannot find.
24. Indulgence
Straighten yourself and you will not stand steady;
Display yourself and you will not be clearly seen;
Justify yourself and you will not be respected;
Promote yourself and you will not be believed;
Pride yourself and you will not endure.
These behaviours are wasteful, indulgent,
And so they attract disfavour;
Harmony avoids them.
25. Beneath Abstraction
There is a mystery,
Beneath abstraction,
Silent, depthless,
Alone, unchanging,
Ubiquitous and liquid,
The mother of nature.
It has no name, but I call it "the Way";
It has no limit, but I call it "limitless".
Being limitless, it flows away forever;
Flowing away forever, it returns to my self:
The Way is limitless,
So nature is limitless,
So the world is limitless,
And so I am limitless.
For I am abstracted from the world,
The world from nature,
Nature from the Way,
And the Way from what is beneath abstraction.
26. Calm
Gravity is the source of lightness,
Calm, the master of haste.
A lone traveller will journey all day, watching over his belongings;
Only safe in his own bed may he lose them in sleep.
So the captain of a great vessel should not act lightly or hastily.
Acting lightly, he loses sight of the world,
Acting hastily, he loses control of himself.
The captain can not treat his great ship as a small boat;
Rather than glitter like jade
He must stand like stone.
27. Perfection
The perfect traveller leaves no trail to be followed;
The perfect speaker leaves no question to be answered;
The perfect accountant leaves no working to be completed;
The perfect container leaves no lock to be closed;
The perfect knot leaves no end to be ravelled.
So the sage nurtures all men
And abandons no one.
He accepts everything
And rejects nothing.
He attends to the smallest details.
For the strong must guide the weak;
The weak are raw material to the strong.
If the guide is not respected,
Or the material is not cared for,
Confusion will result, no matter how clever one is.
This is the secret of perfection:
When raw wood is carved, it becomes a tool;
When a man is employed, he becomes a tool;
The perfect carpenter leaves no wood to be carved.
28. Becoming
Using the male, being female,
Being the entrance of the world,
You embrace harmony
And become as a newborn.
Using strength, being weak,
Being the root of the world,
You complete harmony
And become as unshaped wood.
Using the light, being dark,
Being the world,
You perfect harmony
And return to the Way.
29. Ambition
Those who wish to change the world
According with their desire
Cannot succeed.
The world is shaped by the Way;
It cannot be shaped by the self.
Trying to change it, you damage it;
Trying to possess it, you lose it.
So some will lead, while others follow.
Some will be warm, others cold
Some will be strong, others weak.
Some will get where they are going
While others fall by the side of the road.
So the sage will be neither extravagant nor violent.
30. Violence
Powerful men are well advised not to use violence,
For violence has a habit of returning;
Thorns and weeds grow wherever an army goes,
And lean years follow a great war.
A general is well advised
To achieve nothing more than his orders:
Not to take advantage of his victory.
Nor to glory, boast or pride himself;
To do what is dictated by necessity,
Not by choice.
For even the strongest force will weaken with time,
And then its violence will return, and kill it.
31. Armies
Armies are tools of violence;
They cause men to hate and fear.
The sage will not join them.
His purpose is creation;
Their purpose is destruction.
Weapons are tools of violence,
Not of the sage;
He uses them only when there is no choice,
And then calmly, and with tact,
For he finds no beauty in them.
Whoever finds beauty in weapons
Delights in the slaughter of men;
And who delights in slaughter
Cannot content himself with peace.
So slaughters must be mourned
And conquest celebrated with a funeral.
32. Shapes
The Way has no true shape,
And therefore none can control it.
If a ruler could control the Way
All things would follow
In harmony with his desire,
And sweet rain would fall,
Effortlessly slaking every thirst.
The Way is shaped by use,
But then the shape is lost.
Do not hold fast to shapes
But let sensation flow into the world
As a river courses down to the sea.
33. Virtues
Who understands the world is learned;
Who understands the self is enlightened.
Who conquers the world has strength;
Who conquers the self has harmony;
Who is determined has purpose.
Who is contented has wealth;
Who defends his home may long endure;
Who surrenders his home may long survive it.
34. Control
The Way flows and ebbs, creating and destroying,
Implementing all the world, attending to the tiniest details,
Claiming nothing in return.
It nurtures all things,
Though it does not control them;
It has no intention,
So it seems inconsequential.
It is the substance of all things;
Though it does not control them;
It has no exception,
So it seems all-important.
The sage would not control the world;
He is in harmony with the world.
35. Peace
If you offer music and food
Strangers may stop with you;
But if you accord with the Way
All the people of the world will keep you
In safety, health, community, and peace.
The Way lacks art and flavour;
It can neither be seen nor heard,
But its benefit cannot be exhausted.
36. Opposition
To reduce someone's influence, first expand it;
To reduce someone's force, first increase it;
To overthrow someone, first exalt them;
To take from someone, first give to them.
This is the subtlety by which the weak overcome the strong:
Fish should not leave their depths,
And swords should not leave their scabbards.
37. Tranquillity
The Way takes no action, but leaves nothing undone.
When you accept this
The world will flourish,
In harmony with nature.
Nature does not possess desire;
Without desire, the heart becomes quiet;
In this manner the whole world is made tranquil.
Part 2
38. Ritual
Well-established hierarchies are not easily uprooted;
Closely held beliefs are not easily released;
So ritual enthralls generation after generation.
Harmony does not care for harmony, and so is naturally attained;
But ritual is intent upon harmony, and so can not attain it.
Harmony neither acts nor reasons;
Love acts, but without reason;
Justice acts to serve reason;
But ritual acts to enforce reason.
When the Way is lost, there remains harmony;
When harmony is lost, there remains love;
When love is lost, there remains justice;
And when justice is lost, there remains ritual.
Ritual is the end of compassion and honesty,
The beginning of confusion;
Belief is a colourful hope or fear,
The beginning of folly.
The sage goes by harmony, not by hope;
He dwells in the fruit, not the flower;
He accepts substance, and ignores abstraction.
39. Support
In mythical times all things were whole:
All the sky was clear,
All the earth was stable,
All the mountains were firm,
All the riverbeds were full,
All of nature was fertile,
And all the rulers were supported.
But, losing clarity, the sky tore;
Losing stability, the earth split;
Losing strength, the mountains sank;
Losing water, the riverbeds cracked;
Losing fertility, nature disappeared;
And losing support, the rulers fell.
Rulers depend upon their subjects,
The noble depend upon the humble;
So rulers call themselves orphaned, hungry and alone,
To win the people's support.
40. Motion and Use
The motion of the Way is to return;
The use of the Way is to accept;
All things come from the Way,
And the Way comes from nothing.
41. Following
When the great man learns the Way, he follows it with diligence;
When the common man learns the Way, he follows it on occasion;
When the mean man learns the Way, he laughs out loud;
Those who do not laugh, do not learn at all.
Therefore it is said:
Who understands the Way seems foolish;
Who progresses on the Way seems to fail;
Who follows the Way seems to wander.
For the finest harmony appears plain;
The brightest truth appears coloured;
The richest character appears incomplete;
The bravest heart appears meek;
The simplest nature appears inconstant.
The square, perfected, has no corner;
Music, perfected, has no melody;
Love, perfected, has no climax;
Art, perfected, has no meaning.
The Way can be neither sensed nor known:
It transmits sensation and transcends knowledge.
42. Mind
The Way bears sensation,
Sensation bears memory,
Sensation and memory bear abstraction,
And abstraction bears all the world;
Each thing in the world bears feeling and doing,
And, imbued with mind, harmony with the Way.
As others have taught, so do I teach,
"Who loses harmony opposes nature";
This is the root of my teaching.
43. Overcoming
Water overcomes the stone;
Without substance it requires no opening;
This is the benefit of taking no action.
Yet benefit without action,
And experience without abstraction,
Are practiced by very few.
44. Contentment
Health or reputation: which is held dearer?
Health or possessions: which has more worth?
Profit or loss: which is more troublesome?
Great love incurs great expense,
And great wealth incurs great fear,
But contentment comes at no cost.
For who knows when to stop
Does not continue into danger,
And so may long endure.
45. Quiet
Great perfection seems incomplete,
But does not decay;
Great abundance seems empty,
But does not fail.
Great truth seems contradictory;
Great cleverness seems stupid;
Great eloquence seems awkward.
As spring overcomes the cold,
And autumn overcomes the heat,
So calm and quiet overcome the world.
46. Horses
When a nation follows the Way,
Horses bear manure through its fields;
When a nation ignores the Way,
Horses bear soldiers through its streets.
There is no greater mistake than following desire;
There is no greater disaster than forgetting contentment;
There is no greater sickness than seeking attainment;
But one who is content to satisfy his needs
Finds that contentment endures.
47. Knowing
Without taking a step outdoors
You know the whole world;
Without taking a peep out the window
You know the colour of the sky.
The more you experience,
The less you know.
The sage wanders without knowing,
Looks without seeing,
Accomplishes without acting.
48. Inaction
The follower of knowledge learns as much as he can every day;
The follower of the Way forgets as much as he can every day.
By attrition he reaches a state of inaction
Wherein he does nothing, but nothing remains undone.
To conquer the world, accomplish nothing;
If you must accomplish something,
The world remains beyond conquest.
49. People
The sage does not distinguish between himself and the world;
The needs of other people are as his own.
He is good to those who are good;
He is also good to those who are not good,
Thereby he is good.
He trusts those who are trustworthy;
He also trusts those who are not trustworthy,
Thereby he is trustworthy.
The sage lives in harmony with the world,
And his mind is the world's mind.
So he nurtures the worlds of others as a mother does her children.
50. Death
Men flow into life, and ebb into death.
Some are filled with life;
Some are empty with death;
Some hold fast to life, and thereby perish,
For life is an abstraction.
Those who are filled with life
Need not fear tigers and rhinos in the wilds,
Nor wear armour and shields in battle;
The rhinoceros finds no place in them for its horn,
The tiger no place for its claw,
The soldier no place for a weapon,
For death finds no place in them.
51. Nurture
The Way bears all things;
Harmony nurtures them;
Nature shapes them;
Use completes them.
Each follows the Way and honours harmony,
Not by law,
But by being.
The Way bears, nurtures, shapes, completes,
Shelters, comforts, and makes a home for them.
Bearing without possessing,
Nurturing without taming,
Shaping without forcing,
This is harmony.
52. Clarity
The origin of the world is its mother;
Understand the mother, and you understand the child;
Embrace the child, and you embrace the mother,
Who will not perish when you die.
Reserve your judgments and words
And you maintain your influence;
Speak your mind and take positions
And nothing will save you.
As observing detail is clarity,
So maintaining flexibility is strength;
Use the light but shed no light,
So that you do yourself no harm,
But embrace clarity.
53. Difficult Paths
With but a small understanding
One may follow the Way like a main road,
Fearing only to leave it;
Following a main road is easy,
Yet people delight in difficult paths.
When palaces are kept up
Fields are left to weeds
And granaries empty;
Wearing fine clothes,
Bearing sharp swords,
Glutting with food and drink,
Hoarding wealth and possessions -
These are the ways of theft,
And far from the Way.
54. Cultivate Harmony
Cultivate harmony within yourself, and harmony becomes real;
Cultivate harmony within your family, and harmony becomes fertile;
Cultivate harmony within your community, and harmony becomes abundant;
Cultivate harmony within your culture, and harmony becomes enduring;
Cultivate harmony within the world, and harmony becomes ubiquitous.
Live with a person to understand that person;
Live with a family to understand that family;
Live with a community to understand that community;
Live with a culture to understand that culture;
Live with the world to understand the world.
How can I live with the world?
By accepting.
55. Soft Bones
Who is filled with harmony is like a newborn.
Wasps and snakes will not bite him;
Hawks and tigers will not claw him.
His bones are soft yet his grasp is sure,
For his flesh is supple;
His mind is innocent yet his body is virile,
For his vigour is plentiful;
His song is long-lasting yet his voice is sweet,
For his grace is perfect.
But knowing harmony creates abstraction,
And following abstraction creates ritual.
Exceeding nature creates calamity,
And controlling nature creates violence.
56. Impartiality
Who understands does not preach;
Who preaches does not understand.
Reserve your judgments and words;
Smooth differences and forgive disagreements;
Dull your wit and simplify your purpose;
Accept the world.
Then,
Friendship and enmity,
Profit and loss,
Honour and disgrace,
Will not affect you;
The world will accept you.
57. Conquer with Inaction
Do not control the people with laws,
Nor violence nor espionage,
But conquer them with inaction.
For:
The more morals and taboos there are,
The more cruelty afflicts people;
The more guns and knives there are,
The more factions divide people;
The more arts and skills there are,
The more change obsoletes people;
The more laws and taxes there are,
The more theft corrupts people.
Yet take no action, and the people nurture eachother;
Make no laws, and the people deal fairly with eachother;
Own no interest, and the people cooperate with eachother;
Express no desire, and the people harmonize with eachother.
58. No End
When government is lazy and informal
The people are kind and honest;
When government is efficient and severe
The people are discontented and deceitful.
Good fortune follows upon disaster;
Disaster lurks within good fortune;
Who can say how things will end?
Perhaps there is no end.
Honesty is ever deceived;
Kindness is ever seduced;
Men have been like this for a long time.
So the sage is firm but not cutting,
Pointed but not piercing,
Straight but not rigid,
Bright but not blinding.
59. Restraint
Manage a great nation as you would cook a delicate fish.
To govern men in accord with nature
It is best to be restrained;
Restraint makes agreement easy to attain,
And easy agreement builds harmonious relationships;
With sufficient harmony no resistance will arise;
When no resistance arises, then you possess the heart of the nation,
And when you possess the nation's heart, your influence will long endure:
Deeply rooted and firmly established.
This is the method of far sight and long life.
60. Demons
When you use the Way to conquer the world,
Your demons will lose their power to harm.
It is not that they lose their power as such,
But that they will not harm others;
Because they will not harm others,
You will not harm others:
When neither you nor your demons can do harm,
You will be at peace with them.
61. Submission
A nation is like a hierarchy, a marketplace, and a maiden.
A maiden wins her husband by submitting to his advances;
Submission is a means of union.
So when a large country submits to a small country
It will adopt the small country;
When a small country submits to a large country
It will be adopted by the large country;
The one submits and adopts;
The other submits and is adopted.
It is in the interest of a large country to unite and gain service,
And in the interest of a small country to unite and gain patronage;
If both would serve their interests,
Both must submit.
62. Sin
The Way is the fate of men,
The treasure of the saint,
And the refuge of the sinner.
Fine words are often borrowed,
And great deeds are often appropriated;
Therefore, when a man falls, do not abandon him,
And when a man gains power, do not honour him;
Only remain impartial and show him the Way.
Why should someone appreciate the Way?
The ancients said, "By it, those who seek may easily find,
And those who regret may easily absolve"
So it is the most precious gift.
63. Difficulty
Practice no-action;
Attend to do-nothing;
Taste the flavorless,
Magnify the small,
Multiply the few,
Return love for hate.
Deal with the difficult while it is yet easy;
Deal with the great while it is yet small;
The difficult develops naturally from the easy,
And the great from the small;
So the sage, by dealing with the small,
Achieves the great.
Who finds it easy to promise finds it hard to be trusted;
Who takes things lightly finds things difficult;
The sage recognizes difficulty, and so has none.
64a. Care at the Beginning
What lies still is easy to grasp;
What lies far off is easy to anticipate;
What is brittle is easy to shatter;
What is small is easy to disperse.
Yet a tree broader than a man can embrace is born of a tiny shoot;
A dam greater than a river can overflow starts with a clod of earth;
A journey of a thousand miles begins at the spot under one's feet.
Therefore deal with things before they happen;
Create order before there is confusion.
64b. Care at the End
He who acts, spoils;
He who grasps, loses.
People often fail on the verge of success;
Take care at the end as at the beginning,
So that you may avoid failure.
The sage desires no-desire,
Values no-value,
Learns no-learning,
And returns to the places that people have forgotten;
He would help all people to become natural,
But then he would not be natural.
65. Subtlety
The ancients did not seek to rule people with knowledge,
But to help them become natural.
It is difficult for knowledgeable people to become natural.
To use law to control a nation weakens the nation.
But to use nature to control a nation strengthens the nation.
Understanding these two paths is understanding subtlety;
Subtlety runs deep, ranges wide,
Resolves confusion and preserves peace.
66. Lead by Following
The river carves out the valley by flowing beneath it.
Thereby the river is the master of the valley.
In order to master people
One must speak as their servant;
In order to lead people
One must follow them.
So when the sage rises above the people,
They do not feel oppressed;
And when the sage stands before the people,
They do not feel hindered.
So the popularity of the sage does not fail,
He does not contend, and no one contends against him.
67. Unimportance
All the world says,
"I am important;
I am separate from all the world.
I am important because I am separate,
Were I the same, I could never be important."
Yet here are three treasures
That I cherish and commend to you:
The first is compassion,
By which one finds courage.
The second is restraint,
By which one finds strength.
And the third is unimportance,
By which one finds influence.
Those who are fearless, but without compassion,
Powerful, but without restraint,
Or influential, yet important,
Cannot endure.
68. Compassion
Compassion is the finest weapon and best defence.
If you would establish harmony,
Compassion must surround you like a fortress.
Therefore,
A good soldier does not inspire fear;
A good fighter does not display aggression;
A good conqueror does not engage in battle;
A good leader does not exercise authority.
This is the value of unimportance;
This is how to win the cooperation of others;
This to how to build the same harmony that is in nature.
69. Ambush
There is a saying among soldiers:
It is easier to lose a yard than take an inch.
In this manner one may deploy troops without marshalling them,
Bring weapons to bear without exposing them,
Engage the foe without invading them,
And exhaust their strength without fighting them.
There is no worse disaster than misunderstanding your enemy;
To do so endangers all of my treasures;
So when two well matched forces oppose eachother,
The general who maintains compassion will win.
70. Individuality
My words are easy to understand
And my actions are easy to perform
Yet no other can understand or perform them.
My words have meaning; my actions have reason;
Yet these cannot be known and I cannot be known.
We are each unique, and therefore valuable;
Though the sage wears coarse clothes, his heart is jade.
71. Limitation
Who recognizes his limitations is healthy;
Who ignores his limitations is sick.
The sage recognizes this sickness as a limitation.
And so becomes immune.
72. Revolution
When people have nothing more to lose,
Then revolution will result.
Do not take away their lands,
And do not destroy their livelihoods;
If your burden is not heavy then they will not shirk it.
The sage maintains himself but exacts no tribute,
Values himself but requires no honours;
He ignores abstraction and accepts substance.
73. Fate
Who is brave and bold will perish;
Who is brave and subtle will benefit.
The subtle profit where the bold perish
For Fate does not honour daring.
And even the sage dares not tempt fate.
Fate does not attack, yet all things are conquered by it;
It does not ask, yet all things answer to it;
It does not call, yet all things meet it;
It does not plan, yet all things are determined by it.
Fate's net is vast and its mesh is coarse,
Yet none escape it.
74. Execution
If people were not afraid of death,
Then what would be the use of an executioner?
If people were only afraid of death,
And you executed everyone who did not obey,
No one would dare to disobey you.
Then what would be the use of an executioner?
People fear death because death is an instrument of fate.
When people are killed by execution rather than by fate,
This is like carving wood in the place of a carpenter.
Those who carve wood in place of a carpenter
Often injure their hands.
75. Rebellion
When rulers take grain so that they may feast,
Their people become hungry;
When rulers take action to serve their own interests,
Their people become rebellious;
When rulers take lives so that their own lives are maintained,
Their people no longer fear death.
When people act without regard for their own lives
They overcome those who value only their own lives.
76. Flexibility
A newborn is soft and tender,
A crone, hard and stiff.
Plants and animals, in life, are supple and succulent;
In death, withered and dry.
So softness and tenderness are attributes of life,
And hardness and stiffness, attributes of death.
Just as a sapless tree will split and decay
So an inflexible force will meet defeat;
The hard and mighty lie beneath the ground
While the tender and weak dance on the breeze above.
77. Need
Is the action of nature not unlike drawing a bow?
What is higher is pulled down, and what is lower is raised up;
What is taller is shortened, and what is thinner is broadened;
Nature's motion decreases those who have more than they need
And increases those who need more than they have.
It is not so with Man.
Man decreases those who need more than they have
And increases those who have more than they need.
To give away what you do not need is to follow the Way.
So the sage gives without expectation,
Accomplishes without claiming credit,
And has no desire for ostentation.
78. Yielding
Nothing in the world is as soft and yielding as water,
Yet nothing can better overcome the hard and strong,
For they can neither control nor do away with it.
The soft overcomes the hard,
The yielding overcomes the strong;
Every person knows this,
But no one can practice it.
Who attends to the people would control the land and grain;
Who attends to the state would control the whole world;
Truth is easily hidden by rhetoric.
79. Reconciliation
When conflict is reconciled, some hard feelings remain;
This is dangerous.
The sage accepts less than is due
And does not blame or punish;
For harmony seeks agreement
Where justice seeks payment.
The ancients said: "nature is impartial;
Therefore it serves those who serve all."
80. Utopia
Let your community be small, with only a few people;
Keep tools in abundance, but do not depend upon them;
Appreciate your life and be content with your home;
Sail boats and ride horses, but don't go too far;
Keep weapons and armour, but do not employ them;
Let everyone read and write,
Eat well and make beautiful things.
Live peacefully and delight in your own society;
Dwell within cock-crow of your neighbours,
But maintain your independence from them.
81. The Sage
Honest people use no rhetoric;
Rhetoric is not honesty.
Enlightened people are not cultured;
Culture is not enlightenment.
Content people are not wealthy;
Wealth is not contentment.
So the sage does not serve himself;
The more he does for
others, the more he is satisfied;he more he gives, the more he receives.Nature
flourishes at the expense of no one; So the sage benefits all men and contends
with none.
